This is an excellent complement to one of the greatest math textbooks ever written. If you're looking to teach Algebra from a "new" angle, then step back in time and assemble the textbook, guide and test masters book for Harold Jacob's Elementary Algebra.(Boo! Hoo! That the transparency masters will never be obtainable on a teacher's salary!) Right now, our country is in a heated debate about Common Core. Folks, Common Core has been around forever, it is just tagged by different names. When I got into teaching, my first boss trained me to be an "Inquiry Based" teacher. (Thanks, Pat!) This is a delivery style that encourages collaboration, the development of inductive/deductive reasoning skills, and discussions with the students about their thoughts/comprehension. Harold Jacobs did this in 1979 with his textbooks. This guide will help you get the students hooked and fearless about Algebra. It will enable you to have better insight into the lessons which provides for meaningful learning and discussions. My students love it when I open lectures with tricks (that I learn from this book and the textbook). This makes me not only approachable, but also delivering a true mathematical bang (big bang? :-) for the time I've got them. In just under 180 hours of instruction I send them on their way to high school. Their main complaint when they come back to see me is, "Why is math so boring?"Thank you, Mr. Jacobs for making me an incredible, engaging math teacher. You have helped me transform many students.
